My A2 media studies coursework comprised of a short film trailer with two ancillary tasks, a film poster and film review in the style of a magazine double page spread. I chose the genre of psychological-horror for my short film, which I displayed throughout my pieces with research into codes and conventions. I did this in order to narrow the possible target audience which would allow the film to attract said audience and have a higher chance of a successful engaging film. I chose to target young people from the ages of 15-18 because of their affiliation with the genre. I also had the best access to them as I am 18 and my sister is 15. Any research that I needed to do to enquire the audience’s preferences could be done with easy access with friends my and her age. As the age group put them into the student category, I was simultaneously targeting the social demographic grade E. However, due to the subtlety of the plot, my target audience would have to have a certain level of intelligence –possibly future social demographic grade A-B.
