GCSE Drama Coursework Rebecca Henry Response Phase - Hot Seating In today's lesson we were given a fact sheet, out lining the information and the story of the 'Hanging of Ruth Ellis'. We discussed the case and who was to blame. During our discussion it became clear to us that Ruth Ellis did actually commit a premeditated murder, but on the other hand that David Blakely's abusive treatment towards her was unacceptable. We devised a performance it was a court case investigating David Blakely's murder. We used flashbacks to unfold the story. It was also interesting to see that some of the group was split some felt sympathy with David Blakely and others Ruth Ellis.

GCSE DRAMA COURSEWORK: The Colour Purple For our Drama coursework we used an extract from a book by Alice Walker, called the colour purple. The content of this extract was quite emotional as the character in the extract is describing her deepest and darkest feelings about her and her husband in the extract. The character in the extract is called Netti, she is a woman and she lives with her partner Harpo; in the extract she describes Harpo to be a brutal and violent man, who beats her often. To help us explore the character of Netti the whole class did an exercise called Role on the wall; this was basically outlining the characteristics of Netti that we knew from the text and writing them down on post its and sticking them on to a body outline of Netti, then we also put onto post-its questions that we would ask Netti if she existed, so we could find out more about her. Name Form GCSE Drama Coursework For my Coursework I studied 'Bouncers - 1990s Remix' by John Godber, and 'Shakers-Restirred' by John Godber and Jane Thornton. Originally set in the 1980s but later adapted for the nineties, the plays are often performed together. They tell stories about urban nightlife from the points of view of nightclub bouncers and cocktail waitresses. Each play only involves four actors, and they play all the parts. I enjoyed studying the plays as they use comedy, melodrama and music to portray some very different characters. I also noticed that sometimes, beneath the comic aspects of the play, there were more serious messages about life. Area of Study 1 - Character and Context Our play was similar to 'Bouncers' and 'Shakers' as we worked in groups of four too. Our characters were police officers, as we felt that the police see just as much of the things that go on in nightclubs and bars as Bouncers do. As well as being police officers, we also played all the parts of the smaller characters in the bars and clubs. We took this idea of playing multiple characters from the plays we read. GCSE Drama Coursework Metamorphosis 1. Design a costume for one of the characters in the play "Metamorphosis" I have decided to design the costume of Greta Samsa. The colour of this costume is black and it is made from cotton with an underlying of black lace. I chose this particular costume because I believe that the black represents Greta's locked up feelings, things that she is restricted from; the short dresses her father refuses her to wear, the jewelleries that she doesn't have the money to own and also the makeup that her mother banned her from ever wearing. How it seems like for a young girl who seems to be growing old before her time. This costume represents the way Greta wants to feel but unfortunately she can't. It shows us how lonely Greta is and how her parents never notice because they don't care much for her. I also chose this costume because it is quite grotesque which is a theme used in the play metamorphosis. Her dress has an endless amount of skulls in it to represent the death and loneliness of a part of her since the loss of her dear brother. (The loss of her brother mentally but not physically) 2. Write a diary for a chosen character from 'Metamorphosis' Extract of the last few entries in the dairy of Greta Samsa Tuesday 21st April 1987 Gregor came home later than usual today, I can't help but think the amount of worry and stress shown on his face was triple its usual dose.
